Prizes

First place:
The winner will receive complimentary registration to attend the 2010 California and the World Ocean Conference, September 7–10, 2010 in San Francisco, CA.The winner will also receive a signed print by world-renowned photographer Bob Talbot and the opportunity to be featured in a Thank You Ocean podcast.

Second place:
Beautiful coffee table book entitled Hidden Depths: Atlas of the Ocean

Third place:
Thank You Ocean reusable stainless steel coffee mug

Evaluation criteria
The TYO campaign team will evaluate each image on the basis of originality, creativity and ability to inspire ocean stewardship. Photos must feature the Pacific Ocean off the California coast and images may be taken from land, water or underwater and may include aquatic wildlife. All levels of photographic enthusiasts are encouraged to participate. All submitted images will be posted to the Thank You Ocean contest webpage and may be voted upon by viewers. Viewer scores will be considered in determining the contest winners.


Video Contest Winner Announced!

Congratulations to San Diego Mesa Community College Professor Paul Detwiler and his Marine Biology students Dominique Gilbert, Cheyne Palmer, Carlos Valdovinos and Kelly Hughes on submitting the winning video. The video makes a statement about the pervasive issue of marine debris and encourages people everywhere to dispose of litter in its proper place. Professor Detwiler and his students will be honored at the Blue Ocean Film Festival, to be held in Monterey Aug 24-29, 2010. Their video will be featured as part of a film exhibit and they will receive full access to all the festival events, including emerging filmmaker mentoring sessions so they can continue their great work
